Quick Answer: How is the 4th Subject Bonus Calculated in Dakhil?

Under Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (BMEB) rules, the optional (4th) subject bonus formula is: Bonus Points = max(0, 4th Subject Grade Point − 2.00). Any grade points earned above 2.00 are added directly to the total points of your compulsory subjects without increasing the divisor. An A+ (5.00) awards +3.00 bonus points; an A (4.00) awards +2.00 points; an A- (3.50) awards +1.50 points. If you score 2.00 or lower in the 4th subject, you receive 0 bonus points and your result is not penalized.

Group-Wise Subject Rules & Divisors Under BMEB

Science Group (বিজ্ঞান)

7 Core Subjects: 3 Compulsory (Bangla, English, ICT) + 4 Fixed Electives (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Higher Mathematics).

Divisor = 7
General Group (সাধারণ)

8 Core Subjects: 3 Compulsory + Mathematics + BGS/Civics + 3 Chosen Electives (Economics, Sociology, Geography, History, etc.).

Divisor = 8
Mujabbid Group (মুজাব্বিদ)

9 Core Subjects: 3 Compulsory + 6 Islamic Studies Subjects (Quran Majid & Tajwid, Aqaid & Fiqh, Arabic 1, Arabic 2, Hadith, Islamic History).

Divisor = 9

* Note: The 4th (optional) subject is never added to the divisor. Its bonus points are added directly to the numerator, which is why a high grade in your 4th subject significantly pulls up your GPA!

Golden A+ vs Regular GPA 5.00 in Dakhil

গোল্ডেন এ+ (Golden A+)

A candidate earns Golden A+ when they achieve an A+ (5.00) in every single compulsory and group elective subject, without needing bonus points from the 4th subject to reach 5.00.

সাধারণ জিপিএ ৫.০০ (Regular GPA 5.00)

A student might secure an A (4.00) or A- (3.50) in one or two core subjects, but with an A+ in their 4th subject (+3.00 bonus), the average crosses 5.00 (which is capped at 5.00).

Critical Passing Rules under BMEB:

• Compulsory Subjects: An F (0.00) in any mandatory or elective subject causes the entire examination to result in FAIL (GPA 0.00).
• Optional (4th) Subject: An F in the 4th subject does not cause the student to fail; it simply yields 0 bonus points.

Worked Calculation Example: Science Group Candidate

Consider a Dakhil Science group student with the following subject grade points:

SubjectTypeGradeCounted Points
BanglaCompulsoryA4.00
EnglishCompulsoryA4.00
ICTCompulsoryA+5.00
PhysicsGroup ElectiveA+5.00
ChemistryGroup ElectiveA4.00
BiologyGroup ElectiveA+5.00
Higher MathematicsGroup ElectiveA4.00
Agriculture Studies (4th Subject)OptionalA+ (5.00)+3.00 Bonus (5.00 − 2.00)

Sum of 7 core subjects = 4.00 + 4.00 + 5.00 + 5.00 + 4.00 + 5.00 + 4.00 = 31.00

Total points with 4th subject bonus = 31.00 + 3.00 = 34.00

Final GPA = 34.00 ÷ 7 = 4.86 (Grade: A)
