Digits: 0 – 9
Number systems in HSC ICT
- • Binary (base-2) uses only 0 and 1 — the language of digital circuits and computers.
- • Octal (base-8) uses digits 0–7. Each octal digit represents exactly 3 binary bits.
- • Decimal (base-10) is the everyday number system using digits 0–9.
- • Hexadecimal (base-16) uses 0–9 and A–F. Each hex digit represents exactly 4 binary bits (one nibble).
- • To convert decimal → binary/octal/hex: repeatedly divide by the target base and read remainders bottom-up. The step-by-step table above shows this process.
